Create and manage multiple virtual desktops

VirtueDesktops is an alternative to Apple's Spaces, the application that allows you to juggle between multiple desktops on your Mac.

Unfortunately, development for VirtueDesktops has ended, which means the application will be stuck at 0.54 b5 until further notice. This means it still might be a little unstable to use.

I have to admit that this is pretty disappointing as VirtueDesktops did start to look like a viable competitor to Apple's Spaces. Like the Mac program, VirtueDesktops lets you handle multiple desktops, however it is much more configurable and features more options.

For one you have an unlimited number of virtual screens, unlike Spaces. You can set all sorts of transitions and fades between screens, add plugins and Applescripts. If your patient, you can truly customize VirtueDesktops to your needs, whereas Spaces' structure is much more rigid.

If you're good with the keyboard then you will immediately feel at ease with VirtueDesktops. The application lets you set your own triggers by which to control your set of virtual screens.

It's unfortunate that the developer left an unfinished product, as VirtueDesktops looks like a truly solid alternative to Apple's Spaces.
